Visit to Gay's the Word Bookshop (and Fortitude Bakehouse!)

Start the year right with a visit to Bloomsbury's very own Gay's the Word Bookshop, the UK's oldest LGBT bookshop, followed by a trip to Fortitude Bakehouse for a cheeky snack afterwards! (Note: This event is open to ALL Goodenough College members.)

Saturday 10 October 2026 11am - 12:30pm

In the spirit of National Coming Out Day (11 Oct), Queerenough is visiting the historic Gay's the Word Bookshop! Gay's the Word was the UK's first and only LGBT bookshop when it opened in 1979 and was a hub for the gay liberation movement. The beloved bookshop was the base for Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) during the 1984–85 strikes, later made famous in the award-winning film Pride (2014). Today it remains one of London's most iconic independent bookshops, right here in our own Bloomsbury neighbourhood.

Meet us at LH Reception at 11:00am and we'll head to Gay's the Word together. After browsing (and hopefully picking up a read or two!), we’ll also stroll over to the nearby Fortitude Bakehouse to round off the morning with coffee and pastries!

Note: This event is open to all Goodenough College members, including those who identify as LGBTQ2SIA+ and our allies.
